Biography

Surdeep is a Punjabi folk singer known for her folk oriented songs. Surdeep was born on 14 January to a business man father and house wife mother in a Sikh family of Malout (Punjab).

Being born in a small city, Surdeep had to face little problems here and there in taking up this profession, however, it was her father, who gave her full support and motivation. Surdeep is known as Deep among her friends and relatives.

Surdeep has an amazing flare for music and singing since her early childhood. She used to sing in her school assembly and school functions. Surdeep started singing when she was aged six and at the same time commenced training in Indian classical music under Dr. D S Narula. When Surdeep was studying in fourth class and her age was 9 years, she won her first award in school competition while she sang punjabi folk song ‘Dachi waleya modd muhar ve’. In the age of 12 years, she won her best singer award at Faridkot in state level school competition.

She herself was the die hard fan of noted Pakistani singer Noor Jahan from her childhood. During her school and college days, she actively participated in singing folk songs, Group songs, shabads and won many accolades in Classical music (vocal). Her desire to excel in the field of music ignited at that time and that unending, unconditional love and regard for music inspire her to go deep into the ocean of music for the concrete fundamental base. For this, she completed Master of Arts in Music (Vocal) with first division from the Panjab University Chandigarh and Visharad with 85% marks from Pracheen Kala Kendra Chandigarh.

She was eager to be singer since childhood. She learnt music, she had her training but she was unknown about professional recordings and commercial singing. She was unknown to the whole process from recording to launching. But video director Mr. Amrit Jassal identified her talent and he tought her about modern singing tehniques as a god father and did justice to her voice and launched her first album ‘Sanwla mahi’ in Music Dreams record label.
